Title: The Bunker 17th-18th November
Post by: bribin on October 01, 2012, 06:44:50 PM
Soooo, following the cold trad of Fresher's Trip, I've booked the Bunker on Portland for 2 weeks after, leaving Saturday morning.
We have up to 20 beds (maybe 22 if I ask the lady to kick out the guy she already has booked in...) so who's interested?

Those who don't know, Portland is a big old chunk of limestone by Weymouth, it's famous for Portland Stone, which is (was?) quarried there.
There's sport climbing and potential for some not-great bouldering.

We will be staying in the Bunker, which is a super-bling diver's hut, with games, TV, random books, fire, warmth, real beds, kitchen...

Such a salesman

And nerf gun to provide endless amusement trying to switch the light off from the end of the room.

Right, well...

We have a minibus with 14 seats, from campus on Saturday morning.
We have the bunker to ourselves, making 22 spaces max.
A bed for the night will be 13.50. Food on Saturday night will be 3 and Sunday morning TBC

The bus will cost between 10 and 15.

Novelty doesn't want to go, which causes us somewhat of a pickle with regards to bus drivers, though maybe Alan can help?

Otherwise I am going to accidentally poison you at the weekend.

Also if you have some strange fetish for vegetables (Vegetarianism I think the hippys call it) speak up aswell

Chevis has spoken, hear the word of the lord:

The bus will leave from outside the GSA saturday morning. Meet at 7am.
There will be no stops between here and Portland (Unless chevis needs a piss) so sort the food you'll need for Saturday.

There's club food on Saturday night. So I need to know allergies (if any)
For those who haven't been you just need a sleeping bag and pillow for sleeping. It has beds and everything.

I think that's all for now, shout if you're confused, bewildered, or just plain slow :P

what do people think about which crags to go to?

weather looks fairly wet on saturday and ok on sunday, its only wednesday now though, am hoping that the rain will blow through on monday or friday instead and we will be lucky?!

Westerly winds blowing and so I would probably recommend climbing on the east side of the island, that would mean probably cuttings, neddyfield and cheyne wears?

What sorts of things/grades are people looking for?

I have not been climbing on Portland in ages so if anyone else has any good ideas then please shout out!
