Geek Talk / Reinstall Office on Mac
« on: April 15, 2014, 08:37:15 AM »
I'm looking to buy a Macbook Pro off a friend and so did a big ol' factory reset so I can get it all up to date and sorted using my ID etc. However I've subsequently lost Office 2013 that was installed on it. Any ideas how I can reinstall it with having to buy it again?

Geek Talk / Hardware Component Failure
« on: December 08, 2013, 10:21:35 PM »
(another question!)

I've got a Dell Inspiron 1545, approximately 6 years old.
Recently ran a Dell Hardware check scan, and it came up with a 'critical' hardware component failure saying I need to replace the hard drive. It's running fairly fine (a little slow at times) - is this really really bad? Is it easily fixed without replacing the hard drive? Or should I just get a new computer?

Rather concerned!

Geek Talk / Free up space on disk
« on: November 18, 2013, 10:08:56 AM »
My laptop runs Windows Vista Basic, have had it for several years, but recently have seen that the OS (C:) disk has only 5.56GB of 134GB space free now, which I guess explains why it's starting to run slowly.
Any tricks on how to free up the space? I've done a disk cleanup which has helped a little, but wondering if there are any other ways of getting back some storage space.
I don't have large game files or anything on here, lots of photos but wouldn't think that would make such a huge dent.
Gracias.

Geek Talk / Broadband providers
« on: October 07, 2013, 09:11:52 PM »
Can anyone give me any advice regarding the best & cheapest broadband only providers, preferably with unlimited usage? All these comparison sites confuse me.
So looking for best price per month, as small a startup/delivery cost as possible, preferably unlimited.
Gracias.

Geek Talk / Printer won't turn on
« on: January 02, 2013, 01:26:39 PM »
Bought a new Kodak aio ESP 1.2 printer last month, it's been working fine, last used it a few days ago. Now it won't turn on. Done the whole unplug/replug thing, still not switching on. Any brilliant ideas?!?

Other Activities / Tinks is climbing Kilimanjaro!
« on: November 15, 2012, 11:04:32 AM »
So, in June 2013 I have the chance to trek up Mount Kilimanjaro. The massive mountain in Africa. 5,800m. Pretty tall.
It's in aid of Practical Action - a charity working in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, bringing technology to impoverished communities to help them increase crop harvests, build wells and water pumps, and find renewable sources of energy. Basically saving lives, and making lives better.
In order to go on the trek, I have to raise 2,650.
That's a lot of money.
A scary amount.

BUT it's possible.
And if you'd like to help, I'd be very grateful!!
I'm going to organise various fundraising activities, so watch this space and I'll let you know what's happening.
Or, you can go straight to: http://www.justgiving.com/tiffany-conquers-kilimanjaro and donate directly.

Thanks guys!!

Geek Talk / Hard drive space
« on: November 05, 2012, 10:51:48 PM »
My computer is telling me that I've used 135/139GB of my Hard Drive - this is a problem.
But when I checked, my personal user and all its files (including pictures/music/documents) comes to 73GB.
Any idea what could be taking up the rest of the space? I can't seem to find out, and I don't know how to clean it up.

Geek Talk / CD/DVD Driver missing/iTunes problems
« on: July 08, 2012, 11:19:17 PM »
So I'm annoyed now. I'm currently using Windows Vista, it's completely up-to-date, as is my iTunes. But for some reason it says there's a problem with the CD driver/disc recorder not being found. I've gone through several forums, deleting UpperFiles in the Registry thing, restarting the computer, recreating the files with a new gear driver in it, blah blah blah. Nothing's working. PLEASE HELP ME.

Other Activities / 20mile trek - please sponsor me :)
« on: April 04, 2012, 05:00:06 PM »
Hey guys,
Some of you facebook savvy people may already know that I'm doing a 20mile trek in August for the Redhill and Reigate YMCA.
It's a hike from Lewes to Eastbourne, and we've been promised a few small climbs/scrambles... but we'll see if that's true.
Anyway, it's to raise money for Redhill & Reigate YMCA - I've a friend who works there, and I know the masses amount of effort they put into the community and various projects, so they're an awesome cause to support.
You can sponsor me here: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/TiffanyStoneman
I've got a target of 100, but any support no matter how small would be amazing.
Thanks in advance!!

Geek Talk / Downloading youtube videos
« on: March 05, 2012, 11:34:40 AM »
Anyone know of a website I can use to download a youtube video and save it to my computer? Want to add it to a presentation as lecturer's laptop is notorious for not loading webpages.

Climbing Talk / Softshell questions
« on: November 27, 2011, 11:07:00 PM »
Bit of a lame question but I recently bought a softshell and wore it for the first time this weekend. Those of you who have them - do you wash them/reproof them like they recommend? Will it all go horribly wrong if I just stick it in a wash/tumble dry with the rest of my stuff?

Geek Talk / Broken keyboard
« on: November 14, 2011, 01:13:01 PM »
Somehow my 'one' key has broken - is there a straightforward way that I can fix it, or will it need to be done by a professional?
It's somehow been knocked and come loose, so it's only really attached by the top edge. Any ideas?
