Bullshit and Random Banter / Looking for a room December onwards
« on: September 04, 2012, 09:27:05 AM »
I'm moving back to Guildford in December and was woundering if anyone has a spare room they need filling.

Happy to pay up to £500 per month, would like a double room, and ideally a parking space (though I have a permit for Surrey campus so not essential). As I am old I need to pay council tax so other non-students would be better for me.

Other Activities / Any soon to be graduate looking for a job?
« on: June 16, 2011, 08:31:42 AM »
There is a one year 'Research Administrator' post vacant in my department at AQA. The job involves working with databases mainly, but there is generally oppertunity to work on research projects as well. Not the most exciting job, but its a steady one and good oppertunity to get work experiance.

I think the salery will be £19,500. Work hours are brilliant, we have a flexy system and you only need to work a 35 hour week. Shed loads of holiday. Freindly department.

They are ideally looking for a psychology or maths graduate, but if you have a decent grasp of numbers and are confident working with computers then I don't think it matters what your degree is in.

If you are interested PM me and I'll get you more details

Saturday 14th May 2011, that date we've all been waiting for, the Eurovision song contest!

Come bask in the glory of this exiting celebration of international friendship, listening to the finest Europe has to offer, including the musical genius that is Blue and Jedwood.

Alcohol is required.

Come as your favourite European stereotype. Bring your thickest bad accent and an offering to the Terry Wogan shrine: he may be gone from our screens but he’ll live in our hearts forever.

Kick off at 8pm in Pete and Julia’s house in Riply.

Wooo Eurovision, and an opportunity to wear my lederhosen!  :D

Social Events / Saturday 2nd April, Birthday bike ride
« on: March 23, 2011, 12:48:34 PM »
I'm turning 25 on the 3rd of April (yes 25 don't belive a word Elf says, he's a lying meany) and seeing as the mothers have stolen my day I thought I might have a wee celebration on the 2nd instead.

The plan:
cycle from Guildford to a near by pub, have a long lunch, attempt to cycle back tipsy.

I'll update once I've worked out the route and the pub (people can meet us there if they don't want to cycle)

If you don't have a bike shout - we can find you one. The pace will be leasurly. If it rains we'll just have lunch in a pub.

Yay birthday. whos in?  :D

Bullshit and Random Banter / Drive to rent near Campus
« on: December 22, 2010, 02:39:47 PM »
Hello all

I need somewhere to park near campus so that I can go to work. the upshot of me going to work is that I'll have money to pay you for the privalige of use of said drive.

If anyone has a drive, or knows someone who might want to rent thier drive please let me know. Ideally I would like somewhere near the A3 and campus entrance. It would also be awesome if I could keep a bike in the shed so I could cycle in once Ive parked, but I know I might be a bit hopeful on that count. I'm thinking £30 per month, but happy to negotiate

I don't want to be told where I can park for free, so please no 'you can just use southway' comments.

Thanks all

hey all

We had a chance to chat to Martin Upfold (new wall's manager-hes nice) about the vertical marathon last night and he asked if anyone was avalible to help im put up ropes at the new wall on Friday afternoon. He said that after 4pm was best for him, but was fairly flexible about times. Would be great if we could have volunteers as it would be a good way of seeing the new centre and meeting Martin as well as being generally helpful.

we need 5 girls and 5 boys (for fairness I think)

You'll need to be able to sport lead (does matter about the grade theres something for everyone). He suggested bringing;
  • usual climbing kit
  • lead rope (your own, or club) (the walls are upto 13 meters high)
  • short sling
  • alen key if you have one as there are a few spinners

He'll also need some details from you;
  • full name
  • age
  • date of birth
  • emergancy contact and number
  • home phone
  • adress

If you can make it let us know, then pm me personal detais.

Vertical Marathon / VERTICAL MARATHON SATURDAY 24th APRIL 2010 10am-6pm
« on: February 26, 2010, 10:29:05 AM »
hi everyone, who's up for a challenge.

We are organising a Vertical Marathon on the 24th of April at surrey sports park :- instead of running 26 miles, we will be climbing it!

We will need to  climb a distance of 42,195 metres, which means each of the 50-plus climbers will have to climb an average of 70 routes of the total 3,516 twelve metre routes needed to complete the challenge.. Those taking part will be in teams of three, with one person climbing, one person belaying and one person counting the number of routes covered.

We raised £3,995 for the Mountain Rescue Council (MRC) and Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) in the Vertical Marathon 2007 and aim to raise even more in 2010 for the MRC.

UPDATE
on the day we will have 7 walls from 10am until 1.30pm, and 13 walls from 1.30pm until 6pm.
This means we'll need about 20 climbers for the morning and 40 climbers (everyone) for the afternoon.
So I hope to see everyone there from 1.30pm :)
If you have the time and are hardcore enough to be in the morning extreem group please put your name down for morning extreemness

Vertical Marathon / VM corporate sponcership
« on: December 02, 2009, 09:07:38 AM »
We are hoping to get in contact with componies fairly soon as budgets for shoncership are being asigned within companies as we speak. I'm not sure how successful we will be as budgets are tight atm, and we had little success last time round. However you don't know until you try, so hear goes.

We plan on contacting as many companies as possible, we'll prob try all the shops in town however there are a few that we are thinking of particularly targeting:
  • Sainsburys
  • Tesco
  • Cotswalds
  • Blacks
  • Feild and Treck

Can anyone think of any other compaines which will have an invested intrest for sponcering us that we havent' thought of?

Also does anyone work for/ have contacts with a company that may be able to sponcer us.
