*** Please note ***

There are just 3 spaces left.
Maximum capacity of 50, and we're currently on 47.

Because I've got to keep track of everything, the latest you can pay is 8pm tonight.

Anything later and I'm afraid I'll just have to put that as a deposit on your next trip.

So just 3 spaces after this message and then we're full folks!!

Have loads of fun, eat lots of food, and drink too much wine.

Geek Talk / Re: Hardware Component Failure

You can replace the hard drive when it does go for less than 50.

When I looked at replacing the hard drive everything I found was 150+ ?!

(another question!)

I've got a Dell Inspiron 1545, approximately 6 years old.
Recently ran a Dell Hardware check scan, and it came up with a 'critical' hardware component failure saying I need to replace the hard drive. It's running fairly fine (a little slow at times) - is this really really bad? Is it easily fixed without replacing the hard drive? Or should I just get a new computer?

Rather concerned!

Women always seem keen on not using my documents etc and dumping everything on the desktop so it might be worth looking at that?

You've never seen my laptop - everything is incredibly organised in My Documents in multiple files. Only things on desktop are shortcuts!! But thanks for the stereotype ;)

Didn't you post about this a few months ago? Have you tried those things again?

It would appear you are correct.... Let's see if it all works again. Frustrating that it keeps happening though.

Geek Talk / Free up space on disk
« on: November 18, 2013, 10:08:56 AM »
My laptop runs Windows Vista Basic, have had it for several years, but recently have seen that the OS (C:) disk has only 5.56GB of 134GB space free now, which I guess explains why it's starting to run slowly.
Any tricks on how to free up the space? I've done a disk cleanup which has helped a little, but wondering if there are any other ways of getting back some storage space.
I don't have large game files or anything on here, lots of photos but wouldn't think that would make such a huge dent.
Gracias.

Virgin, through quidco, you get ~ 150 cashback if you get it at the right time

I've heard a lot of bad reports about Virgin being an awful provider?

Can anyone give me any advice regarding the best & cheapest broadband only providers, preferably with unlimited usage? All these comparison sites confuse me.
So looking for best price per month, as small a startup/delivery cost as possible, preferably unlimited.
Gracias.

I was thinking the possibility of colours/traffic light system, as opposed to numbers? Slightly more vague, but easier to understand.

Green = completely beginner friendly, good conditions, lots of help, easy starter-climbing outdoors, that sort of thing.
Yellow = might need a bit more confidence, possibility of less comfortable (ie. camping in November)
Red = experience preferable (or at least balls of steel), competency, likelihood of questionable weather, multi-pitching/long/sustained routes

Might just be a good way for people to gauge where they are and choose what they want to try without getting shocked when they arrive.

As far as I was aware, you cannot train with a University Sports club unless you have student membership at SSP.

And if not student membership, then adequate membership to use the facilities - climbing only membership at SSP is 32 a month. Otherwise you can pay 10 for the year and get discounted entry.

20 days till my fundraising deadline, and I still need 700.
If any of you working types are feeling generous, please spare a few pounds towards it. Without the fundraising target, I can't go on the trip!! (and I've shelled out a lot from my own pocket already for various travel expenses!)
