Softshell questions
« on: November 27, 2011, 11:07:00 PM »
Bit of a lame question but I recently bought a softshell and wore it for the first time this weekend. Those of you who have them - do you wash them/reproof them like they recommend? Will it all go horribly wrong if I just stick it in a wash/tumble dry with the rest of my stuff?

I wash mine normally but don't tumble dry it. Washing it normally will reduce the water repellance a bit, but you can always use NikWax to get it back again
Also depends if it has a waterproof membrane in it like some of the expensive ones do
Would you like fries with that deep-fried?

Yeah it's from Mountain Warehouse, so I doubt it.

But cool, thanks.

It's a coat, why would you wash it?

Out of interest, is it any good? I always see Mountain Warehouse as a cheap shop for stuff like fleeces and hats but I wouldn't buy anything technical their. Did it keep the wind off or was it just another layer?

It's not really a coat, it's like a lightweight jacket. But it got somewhat attacked by the green on the rock over the weekend.

And Weeman - it was perfect. Kept the wind off and kept me warm, which is a major achievement as I get cold very easily. But definitely did what it was meant to. I've got quite a few things from Mountain Warehouse - it's not as bad as it seems.

I still don't see why it needs washing. That just sounds like adding character.

Actually, the almost kicking you in the face was your fault too for twisting the ropes so horrendously they almost knotted at the top!
