Hard drive space
« on: November 05, 2012, 10:51:48 PM »
My computer is telling me that I've used 135/139GB of my Hard Drive - this is a problem.
But when I checked, my personal user and all its files (including pictures/music/documents) comes to 73GB.
Any idea what could be taking up the rest of the space? I can't seem to find out, and I don't know how to clean it up.

Try ccleaner http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner that should help you find some space.

Windows takes up around 20GB, the rest may be in Program Files or Program Data.

This program is really good for seeing what's taking up space, I've used it quite a bit. Just select the C drive and it'll tell you what's there.

That really helped - thanks. It turned out to be the 'System Volume Information' folder - 20GB of recovery data that was years old.
