Free up space on disk
« on: November 18, 2013, 10:08:56 AM »
My laptop runs Windows Vista Basic, have had it for several years, but recently have seen that the OS (C:) disk has only 5.56GB of 134GB space free now, which I guess explains why it's starting to run slowly.
Any tricks on how to free up the space? I've done a disk cleanup which has helped a little, but wondering if there are any other ways of getting back some storage space.
I don't have large game files or anything on here, lots of photos but wouldn't think that would make such a huge dent.
Gracias.

Didn't you post about this a few months ago? Have you tried those things again?

Right click > properties on your photos folder to see just how much space they are actually eating, then look at ways to go from there.

It would appear you are correct.... Let's see if it all works again. Frustrating that it keeps happening though.

Windows 7 has a program called 'Disk Cleanup' which is good at finding rubbish that can be deleted. Might be on Vista too?

I assume you've tried emptying your recycle bin and removing software you don't use? (this is as far as my knowledge extends :))

I was told that storing lots of shit on your desktop can slow things down (I have no idea how true this is)

Women always seem keen on not using my documents etc and dumping everything on the desktop so it might be worth looking at that?

You've never seen my laptop - everything is incredibly organised in My Documents in multiple files. Only things on desktop are shortcuts!! But thanks for the stereotype ;)
