Reinstall Office on Mac
« on: April 15, 2014, 08:37:15 AM »
I'm looking to buy a Macbook Pro off a friend and so did a big ol' factory reset so I can get it all up to date and sorted using my ID etc. However I've subsequently lost Office 2013 that was installed on it. Any ideas how I can reinstall it with having to buy it again?

Do you have the bit of paper with your Key on it?

If so, then just go to the microsoft website, download office 2013 for mac, and type that Key in when it asks you to. It might ask you to phone microsoft and go through a process of putting numbers into your phone when asked to verify it again but should work.

If you've not yet reset it - you can find out product key in the about menu in word etc and write it onto a bit of paper.

No this is the problem - I don't have the key. I didn't realise it would wipe Office off when I reset so now I'm stuck.

Oh, basically without the key you are screwed unless anyone else has some cunning ideas.

Does the person you brought it from have the box for the software lying around anywhere? I think when I brought office for mac it was really cheap as a student (like 30?)

Seems like the cheapest office I can find even with student deals is 100? Oh well, will see if I can get the key or a disc off someone, else I'll have to keep hunting for a new (cheap) laptop! Cheers Chris.

Why don't you just download a free office suite instead of trying to pirate software?

I'm not trying to pirate software, I'm trying to get the original software back because I need office, not just some open software.

Tops marks for inflammatory comments Mat. Maybe next time you could try "Why don't you use a real computer instead of that stupid mac?" or "Get a man to help, they'll be able to work it out love" ;)

I just realised me "oh, basically you're screwed" comment was a little blunt as well!

If the original version of Office on the computer is not a pirate version then does the original owner not still have the Key? Have you checked that it wasn't a pirate version in the first place? If they brought the software direct from Microsoft they can probably log on online and get the key again.

I found Open Office was really good and used it for many years, can open and save as office docs no problem.

Probably a bit late now but have you looked at this: http://www.surrey.ac.uk/currentstudents/it/software/offers/index.htm

granted it's only valid while you're a student but if you just need something to get by with for now...
