Title: Accomodation locations
Post by: Weeman on September 24, 2008, 11:57:39 AM
I have put together a google map showing locations and descriptions of campsites, camping barns and bunkhouses near to places we go climbing.

Bunkhouses: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=214651288938198198443.000457a062123dc87a890&z=7

Campsites: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=214651288938198198443.000457a0c1b8b1a62d3ec&z=5

http://www.yrc.org.uk/content.aspx?Group=huts&Page=huts_other More barns here!

If anyone has any to add then just post some details. Helpful things are cost, booking number, facilities, any useful details if you visit (such as nearby pubs, crags).

If details change then let me know please.

Erics barn used to have a camping field as well, you could add it to the campsite list :D

Ok here are some I've stayed at and some I just know about, google for specifics.

Three tors bay camp site - gower
Bishops feid - bosherton - pembroke
North Lees camp site - below stanage
Campsite between birchens edge and gardoms edge
Tom's Feild - near swanage

I think we need some good one near Llanberris, and brimham rock.

Did the link work then? I shall add it on. Does anyone know whats happened to Eric's barn? I heard he was selling but it might have been taken over.

I know it's not that relevant to this thread, but I found this a while ago:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=103752880450485954674.00000112517cd26aa5348 (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=103752880450485954674.00000112517cd26aa5348)

It's a Google Map about Buildering in London and a bit of info on the routes etc...  Thought it could make for an interesting day out?

Got that one too. How about any bad campsites that people have stayed in? Probably due to price.

Walked out of one in N Wales after they wanted 10 per person per night plus 10 for the tiny tiny tent, this was about 10 years ago too.

Stayed the night first though :D

This is a good campsite if you have forgoten to book anything and every where is full :-)  Bit of a walk from the car park and you have to carry all your gear up :(  nice pub though and if the farmer sees you walking up the track with lots of gear they will normally drive your stuff up for you :-)

There is also a crag within walking distance of the campsite :D  Great for the people who insists on getting up early and going climbing.

Bishops feid - bosherton - pembroke

Do you mean Trefalen Farm? Its the only one I can find in Bosherston. Sounds pretty nice.
Title: Re: Accomodation location
Post by: nacnud on September 25, 2008, 01:43:49 PM
Nope I mean bishops field. It is a field, with a tap. So may not be on many lists but is it fun and cheap.

There is also a more regular campsite next door.

Aha. These are both just down the road from the other campsite which has alpacas!!! (and probably a tap)

Does the map still work? When I click the link nothing comes up, just something about you Charlie.

You have to spend a bit longer than a second on it. It loads up with an option of three maps to click on. One for campsites, one for barns and one for climbing walls.

You need to use the second link weeman posted - maybe update the first post with this so it works?

Is there a list of the addresses/postcodes for all the campsites? I looked on Charlies google map thing, bat cant work out where to find the addesses. There used to be an address list on the top of the forum (where gear colours etc are).

If you want postcodes of places from my map then just throw the name into google. Since its a map I have no need for postcodes :)

just saw this place near the roaches - it's two stupidly nice scout bunkhouses (converted farmhouse). probably about 5-6 a night (depends how many ppl we have).
http://www.gradbachscoutcamp.org.uk/
it's got open fires with free coal supplied, drying room, showers, kitchen, sitting areas, beds for 43 ppl in the bigger barn (plus floor space).

btw charlie do you want to put a link to www.ukcampsite.co.uk on the first post - it's a handy site with a search by radius function. it's where i found the miners arms nr matlock :)

Just thought would add this 2 the barn we stayed in for the Swanage trip at start of the year was 45 for the night for all of us so I think a couple of quid each per night it worked out at. Right next to Toms field they don't get many bookings

number is 01929422732

Edit by Nash: They charged 7.5 per person per night. The couple who run it are Nicky and Brian.

This website is really bling for hostels in the caingorms. Its just a form that emails every hostel on their list, and they all then reply really quickly trying to get your business.

Whilst I think of it the hall we stayed in on fresher's trip.

Edale Village hall. Was in a pretty good location for Hathersage / Stanage etc etc
www.edalevillagehall.org.uk
edaletreasurer@gmail.com

The cost works out like this:

The rate for an evening session with overnight usage is 75. This is roughly from 6pm to 9am the next morning but we can usually be a little flexible with the exact times.
If you vacated the hall during the day you would only have to book the 2 overnight sessions at a total cost of 150 (2 x 75).

However, if you needed to leave your gear in the hall in between the two evening sessions you would need to book those sessions as well i.e.
Fri 6pm - Sat 6pm = 125 (24 hour rate)
Sat 6pm - Sun 9am = 75 (overnight rate)
Total = 200.

So only really an attractive idea for fresher's trip.

while we're talking about accommodation,
http://cairngormschristiancentre.co.uk/
is a good bunkhouse/hostel near aviemore, it's cheep and often has space.
