Title: North Wales, 6th & 7th October 2012
Post by: bribin on May 16, 2012, 03:22:18 PM
This is the weekend of the BMC safety seminar, so I propose to take a bus (if we can fill it) to spend the weekend in Snowdonia, whilst two people attend the seminar. It is at the end of the first week of term.
The seminar is important, if we don't attend we don't get affiliation, and if we don't take a bus then the people that go to the seminar will have to find some transport of their own (inconvenient and expensive)

Who would be interested in a nice weekend of North Wales Trad? Just gauging interest at this point.

Bus
1) Marc (d) 26 - 17 credit = 9
2) Brian 26
3) Crabb 26
4) MegaDave 26
5) Windle 26
6) Twindle 26 - 15 credit = 11
7) Princess 26 - 10 = 16 (is the 10 in the account deposit for this or membership?)
8) Ibad 26 - 10 = 16
9) Hannah 26 - 10 = 16
10) Miller (d) 26
11)
12)
13)

Ali and the Ginger Ninja

From afar
Dave West
Cox

Those on the bus, please could you pay 10 deposit to the club account.

Bus, 6pm, By Channies

Wickedcool. I just wanted to put it out there. The year me and Windle went we had no transport and had to spring it on Hannah at the last minute. I just wanted to see how likely it was we might get a bus, that's all.

Eric's barn=far away from plas-y-brenin, so the people on the BMC safety seminar would have to be driven there in the early morning both days. If we camp within walking distance plas-y then we can totally ignore the existence of the people going on the safety seminar.

Why not drop the safety people at Capel curing on Friday and pick them up at the end of the weekend? When I went on the seminar we spent every night in pyb, so it would have been pointless to make the others camp nearby. You might even find they have space for a tent at pyb if you ask nicely.

My plan is for us all to camp here: http://www.heartofsnowdonia.co.uk/btfcamp.htm I'll be ringing to confirm tomorrow morning

It's where Windle, Hannah and I stayed when we went 2 years ago, and is walking distance from Plas y Brenin.
It put's us nice and close to Tryfan, as well as the Llanberis Pass, which gives us some good options for climbing. Does anyone know what we have in the way of guidebooks for North Wales? I can't really get to the lockers...

I've driven past this boulder for years and still not had a chance to have a proper go.... Maybe this will be the trip
https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Llanberis+pass&hl=en&ll=53.089643,-4.04932&spn=0.035464,0.090895&sll=53.14009,-4.262309&sspn=0.008856,0.022724&t=h&z=14&layer=c&cbll=53.089675,-4.049444&panoid=N4D7avZ_Amwb3fWwP0gs1A&cbp=12,15.64,,0,9.35

I think the guide books me dave sam and ali used when we went up were club, there's  a few (about 2/3 i think) books of varying ages and specificness as well as an ancient slate guide and a shiny brand new slate guide. If it turns out the club doesn't have any decent books then we can just buy a couple for the club in capel curig before we go climbing on saturday morning.

Suggestions? We could drop just the safety seminar people there as Nick suggested. The one up by Tryfan was pretty skanky the last time I went - but maybe we went to the wrong one.
I could try and get one of the bunkhouses or camp at Erics barn, but that's in no way close to plas y brenin

Of course we could just try to keep the noise down and clear up after ourselves... it is only 1 night really

Oxford mountaineering club have a bunk house just off the A5, when i was there last it was 3.50 per person i think.  There is a campsite just past the Plas Curig Hostel on the left with a blue sign. not sure about booking, i just useually turn up 5per night (for this one the pub is down the road, its a nice pub too)

You could ask Gimp, he might know more about bunkhouse's or campsites :-)

This is the weekend of the BMC safety seminar, so I propose to take a bus (if we can fill it) to spend the weekend in Snowdonia, whilst two people attend the seminar. It is at the end of the first week of term.
The seminar is important, if we don't attend we don't get affiliation, and if we don't take a bus then the people that go to the seminar will have to find some transport of their own (inconvenient and expensive)

Who would be interested in a nice weekend of North Wales Trad? Just gauging interest at this point.

Bus
1) Marc (d)
2) Brian
3) Crabb
4) MegaDave
5) Naomi
6) Windle
7) Twindle (d)
8) Princess
9) Stallion
10) Ibad
11) Hannah
12)
13)

-
-
- Tiffany
- Izzy
- Baby D

Ali and the Ginger Ninja

From afar
Dave West
Cox

Those on the bus, please could you pay 10 deposit to the club account.

So tempted.... will check my schedule... :P

I'm still coming!

The club owes me 15 for the bus test months ago so I'll use some of that for the deposit if that's cool.

What's the crack Tash? Marc's the only person who can drive a 13 seater (I did not know this until last night) which makes things a little awkward. Are you guys planning on coming?

i'm in for n wales. i'm not sure if it'd be better if i was in a car tho - i'mplanning on going to gogarth with dave so i'm not sure what time i'll be back on sunday night or what time you're planning to leave.
also i won't be home from work til 7 on friday...
on the other hand i don't mind driving the bus there and back (i can go to the crag in dave's car)

so basically i don't really if i'm in the bus, driving the bus or taking my car ;)

The union have no 9-seaters available for this weekend, however Miller is now coming and can drive the 13 seater so that's all good.
So all that remains is departure time - When can everyone be ready to leave? Earlier is better, it's a long old way.

Alan: Cool beans, you're welcome in/on/driving the bus if you like. My personal preference would be to aim to get back for ~10pm on Sunday.

that's optimistic for a limited bus from n wales..

although i was more thinking that climbing multipitch routes on a sea cliff, 40 mins drive from everyone else is likely to lead to a late departure...

btw where are you planning to climb this wkend?

If wanted  i can pick you up from High Wycombe station on Friday night, and drop you back in Guilly on sunday?

i'll need to go home and get my stuff. it'd make more sense for me to drive and pick you and the imposter up on the way, no? then you don't have to go to gford unnecessarily and i don't have to mess about with trains..

do you want to send me a postcode. i should be able to be there for about 7.30

I'm planning on going to a pub for food on Saturday night, as in there will NOT be club food.
There is a little shop down the road where you can get some stuff, but bring food for lunch/breakfast as you see fit.
There is also the awesome cafe which we may or may not visit depending on what people want to do.

Please bring cash for camping (should be about 10)

If its the same one I'm thinking of, the shop is ludicrously expensive for food and snacks but the attached cafe is reasonable priced and does good breakfast.
