Other Activities / Cheap Ski 2012
« on: April 06, 2011, 01:34:02 PM »
Anyone interested in this little place of cheap, it's 434 including everything but food for the normal week...God knows what the resorts like, but could be good....but there are a lack of hosts.  I'd like to have another last minute holiday next year that does have some minions to look after me though!

These are the other places with free skis/pass, but they don't seem as good 'value'

I make that...need 6...

Geek Talk / XP OEM CD

Has anyone got one?  I'm trying to do a re-install but don't have one and they're impossible it seems to get hold of without buying a license which I don't need...

Unfortunately the academic version from msdn won't work either because it's a retail copy, arse!

Social Events / Circus 11th March - By Spectrum
« on: February 12, 2010, 01:37:16 PM »
Anyone want to go?  Had the poster putter upper round today who gave me 4 'free' tickets, with the catch have to go on Thursday and buy 1 4 brochure per 2 people.  Otherwise I'm slightly confused at the pricing, they say it's 6 any seat as it's the first night, but she also gave me some vouchers for money off (not sure if these apply to the cheap first night seats).  So it might be 6 or it might be 3-5, either way it's not that much.

News and Club Info / Meeting with Chalkie re: new wall and stuff
« on: January 21, 2010, 01:52:47 PM »
Chalkie asked me to post that he'd be keen to meet with the entire club (obviously this is particularly possible, but as many people as poss) to have a chat about the new wall and centre.  There is the possibility of VM talk as well.

I'm not sure exactly what he wants to see everyone for, ie not just instructors, I assume it's just a quick round up of whats actually happening, but the more the merrier, he's suggested 2 times he can do, don't know what peoples thoughts are, I can't do the first one but if more people can do that then I don't mind, this may of course interferre terribly with exams, but info can always be relayed, he just doesn't want to tell 20 people seperatly the same thing.

Wed 27th 3pm or Thurs 28th 5.00pm

Social Events / New Years Eve At Win Party
« on: December 03, 2009, 06:19:53 PM »
It's nearing that time of year where we say goodbye to what might well have been a crap year and welcome in a new one which will be better in all ways, in which we will all be a year older and some a year wiser.

The ministry of win / institute of fail / house of incest cordinally invite you to

We'd like to see as many people as possible but understand no one ever commits to come to new years parties until the day before.

There will be much win involved with lots of alcohol, as ever we'll provide lots of nasty bottle ends, ourselves and nibbles but bring some of your own booze too or I'll cry when you drink all mine.

For the retarded amongst the club the party will start on Thursday 31st December 2009 (time to be confirmed) and with a bit of luck will end on the 1st January 2010.  In between these two dates 'new year' will happen.

Come Round from 7pm

Dress Smartish (if capable)

Food (Nachos, Chocolate and whatever pretentious things I can make) & Mixers provided, along with...

Strong Vodka Jellies
Mucky Punch

Other Activities / ToughGuy 2010 - 25th July
« on: November 25, 2009, 09:17:44 PM »
ToughGuy as we all known is an institution which we all love to partake in, however costs seem to be spiralling out of control.

If you do not know the institution a website is devoted to it

A number of keen young chaps and chapesses partake in the race each year (being a pansy I only do the summer one) however some of our (stupid) boys also do the winter one.  We normally wear a one piece Spandex leotard in team colours (each person gets one leotard, we don't all squeeze in one), which not only look GREAT* but also has amazing fitness benefits*.  If you're interested and haven't done it before you are welcome to join us, although you must meet two conditions a) be cool b) have a love of Spandex.  If you have done it before you have all ready passed the selection test and should enter your name below.

It is my sad duty to inform you that they seem to want 95 for newbies and 76 for those who have done it before, we might well be able to get a team discount of 10% for 10 people on top, although we might not, they seem to change rules depending on the wind direction, pressure, speed and height above sea level.  All prices quoted are ex Spandex and transport, but include a fun brutal race and obstacle course.
I still feel however the newbie price is very high and if anyone is interested in doing it for the first time I'll e-mail Mr Mouse to see if some form of Spandex clad team discount can be arrange for you.

If you're interested please sign your life away below and I'll see how little we can get away with paying (or I'll see if Warren will do it for me).

Also Mr Elf, are we going to get new Spandex if we do compete?  Maybe we should implement a savings plan, like that one that went bust at xmas last year, except with less of the going bustness.

Bullshit and Random Banter / Minibus Licenses
« on: September 12, 2009, 11:46:28 AM »
As drivers have probably noticed licenses expire at the end of September, could someone see about getting the new ones, or at least poke a rocket in the correct place to get them in motion?  I'm never on campus now else I'd go badger them, I'll also probably forget to ring them on Monday.

When I spoke to them long ago about it they said they'd just reissue them, assume in year 3 they might do retests, but I doubt they have thougth that far ahead.

Climbing Talk / Kids Climbing Games
« on: August 08, 2009, 06:06:35 PM »
This might sound a bit random unless you're an instructor in which case you'll know exactly what I'm talking about...

What games does everyone play?  The only thing I ever end up doing with kids is Shark Attack, often combined with Hang Tough.

Anyone got any other games which work well with 10+ kids? I find there are normally too many for hang tough on it's own.  I'm also not imaginitive to come up with anything myself.

Social Events / Party at Ministry of Win - 18th July
« on: July 01, 2009, 09:30:34 AM »
Plenty of notice is here by given that we're going to have a party.  Put it in your diary! [Hopefully this doesn't conflict with anythign else!]

We haven't quite worked out a theme, but we will over the coming 2 weeks.

Other Activities / Carboot on Sunday
« on: May 28, 2009, 01:54:36 PM »
I'm thinking of doing the fruitfarm carboot on Sunday morning and need another set of eyes to stop people stealing my high quality goods, and also to help lovely customers part with their money.

You'll get food and possibly money if I make anything and not feeling tight (I'm hopeful), or you're welcome to some space to put your crap on the stall.  You also get free entry and transport to the car boot (wow)

There is a slight catch, in that I'd want to get there about 7.30am....

Social Events / Karting Morning of Friday 15th May
« on: May 07, 2009, 10:33:34 AM »
Thought I'd start a new thread.....karting on Friday 15th May

It is 15 per person (with NUS card), and you get 2x15mins of racing (or something similar).  It's good fun and cheap.

I want to go as karting as tis funs, so who be in?  We can either get a bus or I'll drive (and maybe Becka?)  If you can't do a certain day, please say!

Social Events / Bowling & Carting
« on: May 01, 2009, 04:12:25 PM »
Anyone fancy going bowling, and also karting at some point.

Bowling is 3 a game at Spectrum during May (god knows if it includes shoe hire though)

And karting is cheap for students off peak and outside of holidays (15+transport), if peeps are interested, I'd like to go again.  Some time that's not between 1&3.30pm too!

Social Events / Annual Dinner Food Bullshit Thread

There has to be some, so to keep it separate.....

I'm wondering what to choose for pudding for the obvious reason that total immersion will be happening.

Geek Talk / Buying a bike
« on: March 06, 2009, 11:40:51 AM »
I'd like to buy a bike but I know nothing about them.  Can anyone point me in the right direction, don't mind spending a few hundred quid, don't mind if it's unshiney either.  Currently looking to get a mountain bike and a road bike possibly later in the season...

This is my current peice of crap I'm going to soon be killed by; I'd like to avoid all the mentioned 'features';

Made from steel (weighs more than an overweight child)
Non-working brakes which I seem too incompetant to fix
3 gears out of 21 functional (which again I'm too incompetant to fix)
Rear unessessary heavy suspention
A seat I can't adjust below what would be useful for a 7ft person
Nice rubber grips on the handlebars which like to slide off

If anyone has seen anything they think they would buy on eBay, then they realised they don't have something similar to my bike so they don't actually need it, or a shiny one from the likes of someone like wiggle please say!
