Diary / SPLAT!!! Saturday 18th June - Saturday 2nd July Pyrenees

For all those who don't know destination is Pyrenees specifically near Orlu and Tarascon. For some sport clipping action, bouldering, adventuring, wine drinking and cheese eating.

The minibus will leave some point on Saturday the 18th probably early evening or late afternoon get the ferry then drive all the way through france during the night.

Once minibus is looking full shall book us a nice ferry crossing. Campsite already investigated and similarly with guidebooks.

Ok money......

From my rough estimations it is going to cost each of us around:
-£150 each for travel (fuel, tolls and ferry)
- £35ish for camping
(For 1 bus and 1 car for 10 people!)

Then your food and wine on top!

So paying you have some options:

I need at least £50 off everyone ASAP to book the ferrys.
Camping you can pay me now or later... if you would like to pay this now please pay another £50 (to keep numbers easy!). You can pay this to me while in France, but may add to complications!
If possible it would be great if you could also pay another £50 (to make £150) before we go, so there is money in the account to pay for petrol and club food whilst out there!

So either please pay me...

£50 minimum deposit
£100 deposit + camping (roughly!)
£150 deposit + camping + some petrol money.

ALL MONEY NEEDS TO GO INTO MY ACCOUNT (Don't start following union rules). Details are in the members area.
Please reference with your name!

However much you pay I will keep careful notes so don't worry that people will be paying all different amounts!

AGM Tuesday 10th of May at 7pm

There are 9 positions to be filled Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer need to be students, but besides that it is free for anyone to run. Anyone can run for any position they want and there are years of experience from many people to help everyone along the way.

Good luck and have fun thinking of a position to run for.

Treasurer
The treasurer is required to collect money for membership or trips, or ensure that someone else who's on a trip does it. They need to be aware of what club funds are available and what the club is doing to raise more funds.

Social Secretary
Trips Officer
The trips officer suggests new trips and encourages people to participate in outdoor trips, as well as filling in the "few" forms required before each. Ideally the trips officer should be someone keen on climbing outdoors in any weather, who's enthusiastic and can get others involved.

Equipment Officer
Passionate about gear? The equipment officer's role is to make sure that all club gear is present and accounted for and to be aware of what gear will soon need retiring and address this by letting the committee know what's needed. Next year's equipment officer's job will be made slightly easier due to the amount of work Nathan put in this year organising our club cupboards.

Training Officer

The training officer's job is to make sure new club members get the training they need to climb well and be safe. This year this has been taken as the training officer should do all the training. Next year we hope this isn't the case, with the training officer's role being to organise experienced club members to turn up and help him/her train the new members.

Web Geek
The wek geek's job is to maintain the USMC forum and website, and make appropriate changes to the website where necessary/suggested. A knowledge of html and php are necessary to make any changes necessary.

Nick of the Club (usually filled by a Nick/Nic)
Usually given to one named Nick(but not always), this role's for someone enthusiastic who wants to be involved in the club but isn't bothered how. Ideally someone with opinions on improving the club that wants to help lighten the load for the rest of the committee.



Everyone get ready for your world to get turned upside down with a new commitee AHHH. (This may be a slight over exaggeration)

Other Activities / Varsity 30th Wednesday at SSP v kingston

Hey I know this is a little bit late, but Kingston are coming down on wednesday to compete in some sports. We have been asked to climb with them or boulder. As such climbing will be at 1pm instead on Wednesday if people can potter down then it'd be great :)

For all who are interested on the 9th of March we are hosting the 3rd round of a little inter uni bouldering league at SSP, between ourselves, chichester, sussex, portsmouth and Southampton.

Start time and entry cost will be confirmed later today.

Everyone is welcome to come along for a chat and a bit of a laugh.

There may be potential requests for people to help cook things for a bake sale as there have been at the last 2.

"We need to recruit two new trainee instructors who will be available for 12 months or so. They must be avail at weekends and be willing to work with children and venerable adults. Specifically we will be operating an u7's club on sat's at 8am and also need help with a disabled group on Saturdays. There will be opportunities for other work of course. We will train to CWA standard."

Session- Date 6th Feb

Venue-Surrey University Sports Park

Sessions-10.30-12, 12.30-2, 2.30-4.

Alright Guys n Gals as I mentioned before I have contacted Mr Gaz Perry about coming along to run a session with us. He as confirmed and we decided on the 6th of Feburary. It will be a coaching session for 1h30 mins.

If we get 24 people it will only cost £10 a head.

He will be running three sessions throughout the day.

It makes sense we split each group into similar abilities ranges, but for now put your name down if you want to come! Can sort out groups a little nearer the time too.

It should be a good laugh and you can potentially get a lot out of it for very good value.

Climbing Trips / BUCS 19th March (Combined with trip to peaks)

Hello everyone,

This year for shits and giggles decided we should have a play in BUCS?

We can enter up to 6 people, in either 2 mixed teams, 1 mixed team and 3 individuals or 6 individuals.

We also need to take 2 route judges for the event.

Also on the Saturday will just drop people off at Climbing Works for bucs and others can just go play outside.

Other Activities / Chichester Bouldering Comp Wednesday 1st December

Basically we have been invited to a bouldering comp in Chichester with prizes from DMM Metolius and someone else (the name escapes me)

It is a wednesday afternoon job, and we have equally been invited out to there SU for a couple of drinks afterwards.

Entry fee is £3 and there is to be a sale from cotswolds before the comp.

Other unis involved are Chichester, Sussex, Portsmouth and 1 other..... that i've forgotten the name of.

Bullshit and Random Banter / Club Clothing "Top 10 Climbing Exuses"

Right, I've mentioned this to a few people now and everyone seemed at least up for a go.

The plan is to get the top 5 or 10 climbing excuses as chosen by us on a t-shirt, with an attempt to make them as general as possible so everyone can appreciate them. If you can stick suggestions below that'd be great!

MEMBERSHIP DETAILS FOR THE YEAR

Option 1

If you are a full member of the Sports Park you go to the reception desk and ask to join the Mountaineering Club then pay your £10 I was told this applies to Students and Non Students by the sports sab so if there are any issues I will talk to him about.


Option 2

If you are not a member of the Sports Park, but want to climb ONLY on club sessions 6-8 on a tuesday and 3-5 on a wednesday then you can get a CLUB ONLY MEMBERSHIP for £95 and then on top of this pay £10 to join the mountaineering club.  I was told this applies to Students and Non Students by the sports sab so if there are any issues I will talk to him about.



Option 3

If you are not a member of the sports park and won't be climbing during club sessions yet still want to come on trips you pay £10 directly to Hannah with a reference of who you are

Other Activities / Freshers Moving in Day

Just wondering if people are about for a bit of the usual cheering and encouragment along with some cheeky postering on Sunday!

Going to stick to postering in the normal places this year, I know its a shame *insert other peoples rant about it here* ,but Poppy had a lot of grief from the union about it last year and 90% of the posters were taken down within a couple of hours.

If you can come along around 12 on the 26th that'd be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi guys and girls

Just to let you all know on the 4th September I am running a 3.5k Assault Course with a team from my placement company in an attempt to raise money for the charity " Help for Heroes" I am sure most of you are aware of what this charity's work for many servicemen and women.

The Nuts Challenge is a formidable adventure full of obstacles guaranteed to bring out the best in everyone that is Nuttie enough to join us.  Everybody has the Nuts to do something a little different and with our assistance we will help you achieve this.


The course is 3.5k, we start you on your way with the Hill Challenge, running up and down a hill may seem easy but with obstacles and other nuttie people around you it won’t seem that easy. Then on to the muddiest trenches, slippery worms, tyre wall, extreme lake crossing, riverside walk, pond dip, barrel hill, high wall and so many more challenges for you to get into.

I'm pretty easy on the location though Roaches/Ramshaw area does get my vote of choice, for either bouldering or trad.

If people don't fancy that sport climbing/whatever is equally agreeable too.

Climbing Trips / Bouldering Competition at New Centre 29th May

Hi guys and girls martin infomed me last night that on the 29th of May a bouldering comp is happening at the new wall.

Details: Well all I know for now is that the entry is free And all teams are made of 4 people and require 1 of those 4 to be a girl......

There is also a boreal shoe demo at this event.
