Route setting at the Vertex
« on: November 22, 2008, 04:29:41 PM »
Chalkie asked me today if we could route set at some point.

As ever it has to be on a Saturday, evening, and he needs a little bit of notice as he might need to get someone to sit on the front desk (although it might be possible to have an instructor lock up instead).

Anyone free in a few weekends time? 13th December is the next clear weekend from what I can see, although I know loads of people might have exams or work due in, else it can always be in January.....

Also spoke to him about food/drink, he said that Pizza might be easier than drinks....so that should be re-imburable, but we will have to see about that.

13th is the first round of BUBC
Many donkeys have tried to match wits with me, but almost all have failed.

Matt, last time I spoke to him I suggested we bought frozen pizzas as it'd be cheaper and cook them at bob and jon's if they're willing. I suggested he provided squash and jugs instead of lots of lucasade.

I would think it'd be easiest for us to pick three possible dates and then everyone ticks the days in a vote that they can make, then we do it on the weekend that we have most helpers at.

Yeah it can be an arse when that happens, I always used to assume that I was doing it on my own and any help was a bonus.

Perhaps you could get people to come at different times so those that haven't got all night don't all vanish at once?

does it all have to be done in one go? couldn't you do a couple of ropes at a time during quiet periods in the week instead? or do a wall at a time during club hours. that way you could have lots of help without chalky needing to arrange front desk ppl....

So is chalky going to pay the club for this service or is he expecting it free of charge??  Could be a good way for the club to get some extra funds :D

I used to do one colour at a time, over the course of several Saturday evenings. Means the wall was never too bare and you could use a dishwasher to clean the holds :D

I was going ot bump this and see what peoples thoughts were for January, but I'm away for 2 of the weekends, as are the other skiiers but a week earlier, then its BUBC.  Also Chalkie is away giving birth to a sprog for at least another two or three weeks and someone would need to talk to him about getting it done so Feb is probably a safer bet.

If we don't get this done soon it won't happen.

So in concolusion....

What does everyone think to the 7th Feb? I don't think there is much planned *yet*.

The 7th is a good weekend. I agree with Chris that we shouldn't be palmed off with cheap pizza's and crap drinks. This is a two way thing. It's a favour we do for them which benefits us. If someone sends me Chalkie's email I will arrange it (it'd be handy to have anyway)

The way chalkey was talking about it was that we get club time in exchange for route setting.  I don't know if the union actually pays unisport anything for us using the facilities, like it does for football etc.

He's off work from when the Mrs has a baby, it hadn't appeared when I spoke to him Monday, that said it was due Thursday.

The wall is closed to the public Wednesday 2-5.
