T-shirt design
« on: January 14, 2011, 09:24:56 AM »
Kaylee, Mikey and I had an initial go at making the top five climbing excuses into a t-shirt design, which is attached. The image was prepared in the open source software "Inkscape", so email me if you want a copy of the original to play around with and improve.

Any thoughts / suggestions ?

Looks good!! I don't particularly like the font style and I think we should have a few more excuses but that might just be me :D

(I have no idea who Kaylee and Mikey are but good work guys!)

Could change big logo at the top to just University of Surrey Mountaineering club as will have the usmc thing on the front. Besides that all happy days!

I dont think it needs the top 5 climbing excuses heading.

I like the little graphics next to each one though

I like it too.

Agree with rich on loosing the "Top five climbing excuses:" heading, or maybe just "Climbing excuses"? and could try adding more than five to see if it looks cluttered.

PS. Inkscape WIN *high five*

I am not sure llosing completely the heading "Top five climbing excuses" is a good idea as it then becomes a whole lot of random phrases. What about just "Top climbing excuses" or "Best climbing excuses".

I agree that putting in a few more excuses is worth trying, particular ones that might be illustraitable. Dave what were some of the other excuses which people liked?

I'd say it's obvious enough without, but doesn't look bad either way...

There was a seagull one... Would be quite funny to illustrate that :D

I'm with Weeman. I'm not sure about the Comic Sans font!
I like the little pics, but perhaps do everything a bit less slanty and fit more on?
I am also not too sure about the title - It kind of needs some title, but don't think just stating "....excuses" quite works. I can't think of a better suggestion mind ;)

The title isn't necessary. The only people that will get it are climbers and they won't need a title to understand.

Not often you see a t shirt with a heading!

I suppose my opinion won't matter as I've already got so many club tops I don't need any more but I think there's far too much writing going on - USMC would be better!

regarding the design...

I would suggest a more formal design... simple lines of text.

Also with the below question you can include slightly less direct excuses...

Why I can't climb 8a...
1. I've got the wrong shoes.
 2. The sun was in my eyes.
  3. Forgot to trim my nails.
   4. Someone greased up the holds
    5. The landing is a bit sketchy
     6. I've just eaten a roast dinner
      7. Pub...
       8. The hold was loose
        9. Bad temps
         10. That 9a yesterday trashed my skin
etc etc

I agree. It seems slightly boring but you get loads more on.

If you did that you could have one of the little climbing picture people climbing up the back of the numbers like they were an overhang.

Happy to produce a few more designs based upon the above comments, as soon as Dave has emailed the full list of excuses he compiled.

Isn't the idea to have a decent t-shirt, and the excuses idea is a means to an end...?

I don't see the point in cramming more on at the cost of style, that said, a plainer format could look good, maybe put two or three designs to a vote?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Been having a play around with a few ideas before Kaylee, Mike and me get together again to develop / finalise a design.

What do people think of the attached design?

I really like the bright green with the white contrast of the hood and the design. Maybe this year we could go for a single colour and really create a presence on campus? It would also make ordering a billion times easier as we only need to worry about sizes not colours, sizes, and type of garment. Any thoughts?

Yes I like it!
I have just one suggestion and I dont know it will actually apply but do you think we could have the design on the back of the hoody slightly lower so when the hoods down people can still see the text, other than that I like it!
Yes i agree having one colour would really stand out around campus.
