VM 2012?
« on: January 20, 2012, 11:24:27 AM »
Would anyone be interested in running a VM this year?

I will be project managing Sport Relief 2012, and think it would be awesome to get loads of sports clubs involved in raising money on and/or close to the day - What would everyone think to doing a Vertical Marathon on the day of Sport Relief? There'd be tuns of people around, we could have donation buckets, there'd already be press etc around. It could be HYOOOGGGEEEE!
Saying that we're not 100% sure SR will be at SSP, but it's looking likely.

Ideas?
What do people think? x

I think it would be brilliant to tack it onto Sports Relif. Afraid I'm not volenteering to organise but your first stop would be to see if SSP are happy to run it there and if they will give you the easy walls (as we discovered last time there is absolutly no point using the overhang).

Sounds fun, not sure who's gonna organize it though.

Good for freshers who want to get involved in the club. You'll get a lot of support from other people.

The only thing is if you do it at Sport Relief time would the money go to Sport Relief?  It's not a charity I'd be interested in being involved with.

Yarrrss :) That was my Q, would people want to do it for SR ?
We could do it a different time for another charity if people were really keen, but I think it ties in nicely with Sport Relief, and Matt, look at the amount of good Comic Relief does!!

Sounds like a good plan. I'm terrible at organising anything, but if you tell me the date then i can talk at people until they agree to join in with it :D

and Matt, look at the amount of good Comic Relief does!!
I look at the amount of money large corporate charities spend on staff and advertising, comic relief spend 16% of what you give them on this.  They might do a good job but I know a much larger % of the money I give to mountain rescue is used by mountain rescue to rescue people, something that may directly impact upon my life, and something I'd prefer much more to support.

Why are the club bothering to do fund raising? Why do it for sport relief? Is it because it's the easy?  You shouldn't fund raise on ease alone -this is what really annoys me about these big charities!  If you were given a choice of what charity to raise money for, and all had equal 'support' sport relief would be languishing somewhere down the bottom.

re: big charities - slightly off topic, but in my experience ppl don't uniformly give to charity. most ppl only seem to donate when they are nagged by someone. big charities are necessary because they can nag on a large scale. they're not taking money away from lesser known charities because if ppl didn't get nagged they just wouldn't bother giving money to anyone.

I'd be happy to be involved and help out with some things.

Would be good to donate to a charity more related to mountaineering, but it's still a helpful organisation

That's cool, but I'd not heard about it other than through you... this says that its not such a prominent event and organisation as some others are to me.  But not trying to argue ;)

But like i said it's still a good thing so I'd be happy to help and support :)
