USMC Chalk bags
« on: May 09, 2012, 08:36:57 AM »
So Dr Danger and I devised a plan in the pub last night , so by definition it is a good plan

Basically Dr J and Ali both have the kit and the know how to make pretty decent chalk bags, we thought we could get an embroidery company to embroider the USMC  logo on a massive sheet of fabric every x cm to make USMC chalk bags with.

It's something a bit different from club clothing , Dr J seemed to reckon by selling them at the same sort of price DMM do we could make a profit, so the idea was then to make up more than we have orders from current members for to sell to freshers and then put the profit into the club and not into cotswold.

It would involve turning John's house into a sweat shop one afternoon , but what's enforced labour amongst friends...

thoughts?

huh, club chalk bags. nice idea - i don't think i've seen that before.

maybe boulder buckets too?
i don't know if it'll be a pain to make but having a zip pocket on a chalk bag (for keys, phone, credit card) is awesome.
if you're doing it as two layers then having a plastic bag in between would give it some waterproofness cos no-one likes wet chalk...

Dr J is a clever bloke , I'm sure he could make one with a zip.
Also I think John's made one out of a waterproof nylon before so he has two , a cool looking one for ssp and a blue one for the outdoors.

The zip idea I like also.

Going to throw this out there as well. Maybe just make some USMC patches and sell those as well as chalk bags?

We'd discussed this a few months back, good to see it's moving now!  I'll have one, also like the idea of a pocket, not too fussed about waterproofness, as normally run for cover when it rains ;) *fairweatherclimber*

USMC patches

I want a chalk bucket!!!! haha I have an idea for the chalck bag closure system, would make it easier to make! we could use velcro (i think dave has one with it) but make it longer so you could unvelcro it and roll it down like you would roll up your trousers, that way it stays open and round, and it wouldn't loose chalck in your bag when going home

also a massive zip would be amazing! and brush holders! haha

Don't need to necessarily need to put it on chalk bags, you can always put it on random things

By making chalk buckets we would, as a club, be encouraging bouldering. Is this a road we want to go down? ;)

Zips shouldn't be too much extra work compared to no zip. Just depends a little on where they go and what the design is. I could advise/ help if you need.  :D

Ali , could you and Tarryn between you get an idea of how much material you would need to make one chalk bag with a zip so if I contact a few companies I can say we want a logo on every ...cm^2

Also which logo? the one you see at the top here ? Or the one with the Stag Kilian designed?

Chalk bags is an awesome idea - but before you get too carried away I'd make a prototype and see if its what people want first.

Jon has made a few now. I'd imagine he would know how much material a chalk bag takes. Also, would it be easier to just get a load of patches made up to stitch on rather than having them every xxcm pre-printed on fabric? I'm happy to help out with making whenever this happens :)

My vote goes with our logo at the top too :)

Jon's made a few for him self as wee man says but I think we'd struggle to get a one off of the logo at the top unless someone has a knackered tshirt or hoody we can cannibalise?

Charlie might still have the sample xamax made many years ago...

Although it's not very exciting it might be worth giving these guys a ring, to see what price sweat shop made bags actually cost
